College of Mathematics and Computer Science is one of the earliest colleges to be established, with great scale, influence, and scientific research teaching strength. This institute now has more than 90 teaching and administrative staffs, including 10 professors, 30 associate professors, 21 post-doctoral researchers and doctoral candidates, 1 doctoral supervisor and 9 master degree candidate's tutors. The student body consists of more than 1300 full-time undergraduate and training students.

At present, this institute has a multi-specialized and multi-functional system of education. There are mathematics and applied mathematics, information and calculation science, computer science and technology, computer and application technology, computer network management, as well as a number of other training specialties. There are “operations research and cybernetics,” “systematic theory,” “course and teaching theory,” “mathematics and applied mathematics,” “background mathematics,” “soft project and designing,” “management science,” and other courses. The Institute is accredited in 7 master's degrees.

There is also key a city-level laboratory (“operations research and cybernetics”) and a city-level key discipline (“ systematic theory”), as well as the city-level key course “algebra and mathematics analysis.” Among those, mathematics analysis is an “up-market” course in Chongqing.

The academic team with a number of young and middle aged teachers has made a break-through in scientific research. They have successively completed 9 items of the Fund Project of National Natural Science, the Outstanding Youth Fund of the Ministry of Education, and the Fund Project of the Chinese Academy of Science., Furthermore, they have completed more than sixty school-level projects and undertaken many national-level scientific research projects. They also published more than 6000 theses, and more than 40 monographs and teaching materials.

Students who participate in the national university students' “mathematics modeling” contest also obtained a first prize recognition.

The research work of this institute also gets numerous famous scholars' attention help and guidance. These scholars include alumni who have graduated from the institute, such as Mr. Ma Zhi Ming and Mr. Zhang Jing Zhong-academics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences-as well as Mr. Chen Ya Guang of the Systematic Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, among other scholars.

This institute has a strong and rich faculty. One member was chosen as a national-level young and middle-aged expert of outstanding contribution, and four others were chosen to receive the Government Special Subsidy for Experts. They have also obtained 4 provincial prizes recognizing outstanding educational achievement, more than 20 city-level prizes of achievements of scientific research, and 4 of the nationally awarded “Zeng Xian Zhi outstanding teacher awards.”

This institute has superior experimental facilities and a well-equipped comprehensive experimental institute. Now there is a variety of more than 200 of computers, as well as hardware experimental facilities, electronic technology simulation capabilities, digital electronic technology, and a variety of other high technology facilities.
