In order to strengthen the political conception of university students, this department combines formal college of economy and politics, Marxism-Leninism teaching and research section and community work department. At present, this department has politics department, social work department and public course section and a research institution—community construction and development research center. Politics department and social work department separately undertake moral-politics education and social work for undergraduates; public course section undertakes the theory of moral-politics education for all the undergraduates on campus, excluding college of elementary education and preschool education. From the perspective of the branch of learning, this department has moral-politics education and social work, the two majors for undergraduates; 5 master's degree direction for Marxism theory and 1 master's degree direction for ethnics.

At present, there are 55 teaching stuff, 3 professors, 16 associate professors, 18lecturers, 5 teaching assistants, 2 apprentice teaching assistants; 7 Research Associates, 2 Research trainees; 3 guest professors(Mei Chen yuchan, Peng xiaoling, Cao yong),1 honorary professor(Zhang qunli); 793 full-time students, among which of 707 undergraduates, 86 graduates

The notion of teaching is “respect education, students first” for this department. Meanwhile, it has determined to increase the quality of teaching as fundamental point in order to be in pace with the modern development..

This department bases itself on the undergraduate education. It tries its best to establish a unique and influential college in southwest area in 3-5 years; to realize that it can be one of the best colleges for teaching politics theory in Chongqing. 

Also, it has achieved many. From 2002 to 2006, teachers published openly more than 200 papers, among which there are 41 in key periodicals, 3 in authoritized key periodicals; it has presided over and participated over 80 research items.
