Brief Introduction to Chinese Language Education Center

at Chongqing Normal University

   
        Chongqing Normal University, founded in 1954, is a full-time comprehensive institution of higher education under the
leadership of Chongqing Municipal Government of P. R. China. The university covers over 1280 acres. By now, the number of
registered students has reached 30,000 with 1,700 faculty members.
        Chongqing Normal University was appointed in year 2000 by the Ministry of Education£¬China's central government, to
enroll overseas Chinese students, including students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and other international students. The
University was designated one of the first Chinese Language Educational Centers by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office by
the State Council and is the only university in Western China. The University has the longest established liberal arts program
and has highly qualified professors and specialists in the International College of Chinese Language and Culture, College of
Literature and Journalism, College of History and Museology, College of Fine Arts, College of Tourism, and the Research
Institute of Three Gorges Culture & Development. In addition, the center of Chinese Language Education for overseas
students and the Test Center of Standard Chinese Pronunciation take the leading position in Chongqing as an important center
for the education of Chinese history, culture, and language.

        The Chinese Language Education Center at Chongqing Normal University was established in June 2000, directled by the
Overseas Chinese Affaires Office of the State Council. Mr. Guo Dongpo, who as the former director of Overseas Chinese
Affaires Office, attended the unveiling ceremony.
